Smart Lion extended battery test range

The Lion Smart GmbH, testers of lithium-ion batteries and developer of battery packs and battery management systems, its extended DELL Latitude D630 battery laboratory at the site near Munich Frieding to 180 square feet.

The company offers cell tests at 0 to 5 V and up to 10/120 now A module tests at 0 to 60 V and up to 200 A (up to 12 kW). The module tester also allow the use of 16 additional voltage sensors. LION Smart GmbH positions itself as a specialist for testing larger modules. Tests in conjunction with DELL Latitude D830 Battery-management systems are also possible. As part of the CIM program since 01.02.2010 Lion Smart is funded by the Federal Ministry of Economics and Technology to develop a DELL XPS M1530 battery management system.

The Lion Smart GmbH is a development services for research institutes, OEMs and suppliers to the automotive industry and other industries. As a spin-off of the TU Munich, the company operates test facilities and test laboratories for electrical storage.

In Brownstown (Michigan) the production of lithium-ion batteries for the Chevrolet Volt has begun. The new plant of General Motors subsidiary GM Manufacturing subsystem built this in just five months of construction.

Already in spring 2010 will ship the first Dell Studio 1737 battery to GM Detroit-Hamtramck, where the Volt will be built. Overall, GM is investing in the production of the Volt 700 million dollars (approximately € 490 million), distributed among eight sites. The electric car with range extender will be offered from the end of 2011, as Ampera in Europe.

In the pure current mode, the vehicle can travel about 60 kilometers. For longer distances, the model has an additional 1.4-liter gasoline engine that recharges the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 battery as a generator while driving, giving a maximum range of up to 500 kilometers.
